Barman cooks pub takings
Luke Woolston, 19, who works at the Jolly Farmers, in Ormesby, Norfolk, put the money inside an oven for safe-keeping after cashing up.
Shortly afterwards he realised the cooker was switched on and smelled burning.
Landlord Martin Talbot, 36, said the teenager had owned up to the mistake via a text message.
“It was an act of stupidity,” he said. “I thought I could handle it in one of two ways — either give him a strong talking to or tell two or three customers, thinking it would be round the village in no time and his life would be hell for two or three weeks.
“It seems to have worked.”
Talbot said he was hoping to salvage some of the charred notes.
