Brand rings host’s granny in send up of calls scandal

RUSSELL BRAND has called another grandparent on a radio show, sending up the lewd calls he made to Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sachs.

Brand, who appeared as a guest on Absolute Radio, was asked by presenter Geoff Lloyd if he would give co-host Annabel Port’s grandmother a call, to show he could be nice to grandparents.

The grandmother, named by the station only as Lois from Southend-on-Sea, Essex, said: “I can’t hear very well unfortunately.”

Brand replied: “Oh right, it’s okay, I will speak very clearly and mostly in expletives. Lois?”

Brand quit his BBC Radio 2 show and Jonathan Ross was suspended for three months after the pair made a string of lewd calls to Sachs’s answer phone, claiming Brand had slept with Sachs’s granddaughter, Georgina Baillie.

But instead of launching into a foul-mouthed rant on Absolute Radio, Brand continued: “I’m just ringing to say that you ought to be very proud of Annabel, she’s a lovely, lovely young lady...

“I would like to convey to you absolute respect, high regard and love for you and all people of your generation and all the people of earth and grandparents everywhere, and I’d like to say that... and to reprise the song...”

He went on to sing: “Grandma, we love you, grandma we do.”

Lloyd asked at one point: “Lois, are you still with us?”

Brand responded: “Me and Jonathan Ross are in the clear on this one.”
