Thurman ‘freaked out’ by stalker’s grave card
The 38-year-old actress said the defendant, Jack Jordan, had been mingling with movie extras when he came up to her trailer and asked to see her. Her assistant intervened and said he would give her the card.
“I was completely freaked out,” Thurman said of the picture, which was drawn on a religious confirmation card. “It was almost like a nightmare; it was scary.”
The card also contained random words written in a spiral. From the witness stand she read some of the words that were legible: “Chocolate, mouth, soft, kissing.”
Only one sentence was discernible, she said. It was: “My hands should be on your body at all times.”
When she opened the card, the Producers film star said little bits of torn paper fell out. One was a picture of a bride with her head torn off.
Jordan is accused of following and trying to contact Thurman from early 2005 until late last year. Thurman said she or her family received other correspondence from the defendant in the form of e-mails and letters. The most frightening, she said, was one in which the names of her two children, aged 6 and 9, were mentioned.
“Just to write down the names of my children ... I found that very frightening,” she said.
The actress took the witness stand in Manhattan state Supreme Court.
His attorney, George Vomvolakis, said Jordan is a former mental patient who has been diagnosed as schizophrenic and bipolar and should be in psychiatric treatment, not in jail.
Jordan is charged with stalking and aggravated harassment, and faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
Thurman’s other screen credits include Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill movies.
