Giggs scores at the Palace
The Manchester United player said Ferguson, who gave him the day off to pick up the award, had met the Queen a couple of times before and just told him to enjoy the occasion.
Giggs, 34, received the OBE for services to sport over a distinguished career.
After picking up the award from the Queen at Buckingham Palace, he said: “It is a very proud day for me and my family. I’m lucky to play for such a great club and have a successful career.”
Giggs, who has clocked up more than 700 appearances for United, said: “I tried to keep it quiet from the players.”
