Potter fans warned to stay away from spoilers
Scanned pages of what may be the entire text of the final instalment of JK Rowling’s series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, were circulating yesterday among web users.
A separate site, displayed what it claimed to be a seven-page epilogue and the table of contents from Deathly Hallows, which is releasing on Saturday amid tight security.
The leak revealed for the first time the titles of all 37 chapters in the book and the first 495 pages. Chapters are alleged to include The Fallen Warrior, The Muggle-Born Registration Commission, The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore and The Flaw in the Plan.
Meanwhile, thousands of US residents may find a copy of the book lying at their front door over the coming days, it seems.
A resident of Maryland USA, Jon Hopkins, arrived home from work on Wednesday to find a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows lying wrapped up on his front porch.
The surprised Potter fan had pre-ordered his copy of the book on www.DeepDiscount.com and was not due to receive it until the worldwide release date tomorrow at midnight.
However, the website’s inability to gauge the time it would take for the book to reach Maryland through the US Postal Service resulted in the possibility of thousands of customers receiving their books early.
The 25-year-old software engineer says he has no plans to divulge the contents of the book.
Executives at US Publishers Scholastic were said to be furious that a €10m security operation protecting against the early release of the book has been foiled.
Measures have included the use of secret warehouses and satellite tracking systems attached to trucks transporting the books to ensure they did not stray from assigned routes.
Scholastic, has also been busy ordering would-be spoilers to remove their information from the internet.
