‘Blast on Middle East scale’

EXPERTS said the Haymarket car bomb would have created a devastating explosion on the scale of those seen in Baghdad and Israel.

The combination of large quantities of petrol and gas cylinders could have created a blast with a radius of about 200 yards.

The 60 litres of petrol, about the same quantity carried by the full tank of a saloon car, may have been intended to be the primary blast, experts said.
