A TOP football reporter accused of trying to drug women with Valium-laced desserts for sex sobbed as he said he only had the drug to help him cope with the stress of his dying father.

If any of the drug got into their food it was an accident, Christopher Davies, 58, a one-time ghost writer of columns for George Best and Alan Ball, told Croydon Crown Court.

Mr Davies wined and dined three female friends in his home in Bromley, south-east London, in January 2006. He was “ashamed and mortified” that anyone would think he had done anything wrong.
