Clinton is most-admired power woman
The Democrat senator, 59, beat US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher in the survey.
Ms Clinton ended years of speculation last month when she declared she would seek her party’s nomination as presidential candidate — and said she was “in to win” the race for the White House.
The British Queen also made it into the top 10 — in fifth place — in the study compiled for Harper’s Bazaar magazine.
The adoption controversy surrounding Madonna does not seem to have hurt her standing, with the Queen of Pop coming in second.
The singer, who is the fourth richest woman in showbusiness according to Forbes magazine, made headlines last year after adopting a 13-month-old boy from Malawi. Critics said the move flouted the country’s adoption laws.
Meanwhile, Helen Mirren, who has been nominated for an Oscar for her title role performance in The Queen, was third in the poll, followed by former Conservative Party leader Ms Thatcher.
The poll put Ms Rice in sixth place, with French Socialist Segolene Royal, who is bidding to become France’s first female president, next.
Supermodel Kate Moss is eighth, while Body Shop founder and multi-millionaire Anita Roddick and BBC Newsnight presenter Kirsty Wark take the final slots in the top 10.
Harper’s Bazaar magazine interviewed 500 professional women for the survey.
