Indelible Hulk: stress for girl after bad hair day at pool

Seven-year-old Paige Williams took off her swimming cap at Penlan Leisure Centre, Swansea, to find her golden locks had changed colour.

Her family do not know why it happened or how to get rid of it. Her mother Lucy, 24, has even tried scrubbing out the green with vinegar and lemons.

A spokesman for Swansea Council said: “The little girl’s mother informed the Penlan Leisure Centre manager that her daughter wore her hair in a bobble under a Speedo silicon swimming cap during her school swimming lesson and, when the bobble was removed that evening, a number of green patches were visible.

“We ensured the chemical readings in the water were checked as soon as the matter was reported, and the balance of the water was found to be normal.

“Over 100 other schoolchildren and members of the public also swam in the pool on the same day and no similar issues were communicated.

“The little girl in question has used the pool at Penlan on many occasions without such a matter arising and this is the first time a problem of this kind has ever been reported within the city and county.

“Staff have been closely monitoring the pool since the matter was noted and no further incidents of this nature have been reported.”

Paige has been teased about her hair at school, her father Anthony, 35, said.

He added: “She is now being called Hulk’s Daughter because of her hair, after the TV character.”
