Fan buys PlayStation 3 for almost €12,000

A BUYER in Britain has won an eBay auction for one of Sony’s newly launched PlayStation 3 game consoles with a bid of $15,100 (€11,777).

The 60-gigabyte console, which retails for $599 (€470), was one of thousands being offered on the internet auction site by profiteers hoping to turn a quick buck after the PS3’s US launch yesterday.

The powerful machine made its world debut in Japan on November 10, and sold out within hours. Sony made only 400,000 units available in the United States, while in Europe, the console does not go in sale until March.
