Britain’s ‘most prolific’ burglar jailed

Norman Sinclair, aged 46, stole millions of pounds of jewellery, cash and credit cards in a crime wave which earned him a place on Scotland Yard’s most wanted list.

Sinclair had pleaded guilty to 13 burglaries but had changed his mind on the 2,646 burglaries he had asked to be taken into consideration, saying he could not remember which he had committed because of his “chaotic lifestyle”, the court was told.

Judge Nic Madge told Sinclair he was a “predator” as he jailed him for six years for 13 burglaries committed between December 1997 and March this year.

The burglar turned born-again Christian was caught using a false passport by port officials at Dover.

He claimed he was on his way to Jerusalem on a mission to help him lead a life “more in line with his Christian faith” , away from his life of drugs, burglary and use of prostitutes, said Nathan Palmer, defending.
