Slim majority in favour of EU expansion

ONLY a narrow majority of EU citizens are in favour of allowing more countries to join the 25-member union, according to a new survey.

The latest Eurobarometer poll published yesterday shows that 45% of the EU’s population supports the further enlargement of the EU compared to 42% who oppose the entry of additional member states.

The level of Irish support for enlargement matches the EU average exactly, with 45% of citizens in this country in favour.
