A VILLAGE council has ordered an Indian woman, pregnant with her second husband’s child, to return to her first husband who was freed from a Pakistani jail five years after being written off as a deserter or dead.

Sapper Mohammed Arif disappeared during fierce fighting in Kashmir in 1999 and was declared a deserter, but had, in fact, been captured by Pakistani troops.

After being tracked in a prison in Pakistan and returned to his village near Delhi this month, Sapper Arif appealed to Islamic scholars to reclaim his wife, Guriya.
