Station shut at night from next week
A 90-minute meeting between the nine members of Youghal Town Council and senior garda chiefs headed by Deputy Commissioner Aidan Culligan, has failed to resolve differences between the sides on the issue.
Now, unless Minister McDowell accedes to a request to meet with the councillors and at least forestall the closure, the East Cork resort will be without a garda station for eight hours a day. The ninety-minute meeting was a "frank and open one'', according to the mayor of Youghal, Seanie Ring.
