MILLIONS of locusts landed on the runway of Nice’s international airport but officials said there was no threat to air traffic.

An operation to exterminate the swarm, which had gathered over several days at the French Riviera airport, was planned for overnight.

The runway and its surroundings were to be treated with a chemical product that was non-toxic and safe for the environment.
