Plainclothes anti-terror police are conducting patrols on the London Underground today to prevent any possible terrorist attacks.

Uniformed officers have begun stop-and-search checks on the network as security was being stepped up.

Underground passengers have been warned to make their own checks for unattended baggage, British Transport Police said, and a new poster campaign has also been launched.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke, head of the Metropolitan police Anti-Terrorist Branch, said public vigilance when travelling on rail or Tube was “vital at all times”.
