Jakarta fire destroys 600 houses

SOME 2,500 people lost their homes yesterday when fire razed a densely populated central area of the Indonesian capital Jakarta.

“The number of people who lost their home stands at about 600 families or some 2,500 people,” said the head of the Karanganyar urban ward Fauzi.

The fire started from a food stall inside a market and quickly spread.
