Man and woman die in shooting at Harvey Nic’s

TWO people were killed last night in a shooting at the exclusive Harvey Nichols department store in London.

Police said a man and a woman, both aged around 30, were pronounced dead at the scene, but that they were not looking for anyone else over the incident.

Scotland Yard said officers were called to the Knightsbridge store at around 7.45pm.

There were no reports of any other injuries.

“We are trying to ascertain the circumstances but are not currently seeking anyone else in connection with the incident,” a spokesman said.

“We are currently making inquiries to establish their identities. Next of kin have yet to be informed.”

A 26-year-old woman working in the store when the shooting happened said: “It was about 7.45pm. I was looking at my watch, ready to go home, then bang, bang, bang - four gunshots downstairs. A girl got shot. There were shoppers still walking around totally unaware.”

The woman said she thought the victim was in her 20s.

“It was really scary. There was no announcement. We just heard people screaming and ran,” she said.

“There weren’t many shoppers around so that was pretty lucky. There was no evacuation of staff. They should have responded quicker, we were all terrified. We thought maybe it was a bomb.”
