Athens hotel staff set to strike

ATHENS hotel workers, in pursuit of a pay claim, are to strike just as visitors and dignitaries begin arriving for the Olympic Games next month.

The planned August 4 strike by the13,000 strong Hotel Workers Association, which covers the Athens area, is the latest in a series of protests by the group demanding a long-term contract that includes higher pay aimed at reaching parity with other European nations.

Union officials threatened to strike during the games - August 13 to 29 - if their demands are not met.
