Stag-night reveller died after single punch from bouncer, court hears

A BOUNCER who ejected a drunken stag-night reveller from Stringfellows in London for fondling one of the club’s dancers punched him so hard the man died almost instantaneously, a jury heard.

Heavyweight boxer and martial arts fanatic Marcus Marriott, aged 33, killed 21-stone George MacDonald with a single punch after the reveller touched a lap dancer at the West End club, the Old Bailey was told this week. Marriott’s blow shattered Mr MacDonald’s jaw and sent him tumbling to the pavement, fracturing his skull as he landed, the court heard.

He died minutes after the alleged assault in October 2004.

Dorian Lovell-Pank, QC, prosecuting, explained that when Mr MacDonald, aged 34, had arrived at the club he had had several drinks and broke the house rules by touching one of the dancers.

During the evening a lap dancer was performing a dance for Mr MacDonald who was seen touching her, the court heard.

Mr MacDonald was being escorted from the club by two bouncers when they were joined by Marriott.

Mr Lovell-Pank said: “Mr MacDonald said, ‘You think you are a big boy’, or words to that effect to this defendant.”

The QC said Marriott punched Mr MacDonald so hard it shattered his upper jaw bone and sent him crashing to the floor, where he fractured his skull.

Marriott, of Chingford, Essex, denied manslaughter.
