A teenage boy in England yesterday said he was “lucky to be alive” after discovering he had been living with a broken neck for up to 10 years without realising it.

Liam Careless, 15, of Coniston Drive, Stalybridge, Greater Manchester, found out he could have been paralysed or even killed had the broken bone at the base of his neck moved out of place.

The youngster walked into hospital after he felt a numbness down one side of his body after being pushed by a friend.
