Lincoln Park Zoo gorilla dies

THE first gorilla born at Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo has died at age 35, elderly for a western lowland gorilla.

The female Kumba apparently suffered from kidney failure, zoo spokeswoman Kelly McGrath said. Keepers decided to put her down.

Western lowland gorillas, found in the Central African Republic and Congo, are endangered, with as few as 10,000 in the wild.
