Police interview Hawking
The Cambridge University professor, 62, was spoken to yesterday at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, where he was said to be recovering from pneumonia.
A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said: “We have spoken to Professor Hawking and our investigations continue.”
It is the first time detectives have questioned the married father-of-three over the allegations.
Prof Hawking, who suffers from motor neurone disease and is confined to a wheelchair, has “wholeheartedly” rejected the claims and said he felt the media reports were an invasion of privacy.
A hospital spokeswoman described the scientist’s condition as stable.
He was moved to the specialist heart and lung hospital last month after receiving treatment for pneumonia at the city’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
