Carbon tax vital, says expert

CARBON tax must be introduced and modelled on the highly successful plastic bag levy.

The climate change tax is vital if Ireland is to meet its obligations under EU and Kyoto agreements, according to Frank Convery of the Department of Environmental Studies at University College, Dublin.

The 15 cent plastic bag levy has resulted in a 90% reduction in emissions.
