Insurgents launched a deadly ambush yesterday in the guerrilla stronghold of Ramadi, killing eight Iraqi National Guardsmen and injuring 18 others.

US and Iraqi troops have been battling insurgents every day for weeks in Ramadi, located 70 miles west of Baghdad.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Iyad Allawi’s office confirmed that the PM’s cousin Ghazi Allawi, aged 75, had been freed by kidnappers.
