THE State froze the bank accounts of six individuals after the United Nations (UN) linked them to international terrorism in the wake of 9/11.

Details emerged yesterday as Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, commemorating the first anniversary of the terrorist bombings in Madrid, said that international co-operation was “essential” in the fight against such acts.

The names of the six, who had a total of eight accounts with Irish financial institutions, appeared on a list of terrorist suspects compiled by the UN Security Council Committee following 9/11.
