No fire system in Madrid building

THE 32-storey Madrid office building gutted by fire over the weekend had no automatic sprinkler system because it was 10ft under the minimum height mandating such equipment, Madrid city hall said yesterday.

The building will be demolished piece by piece at an estimated cost of €22 million.
