FG: Traffic Corps recruitment ‘hopelessly inadequate’

THE recruitment of 33 extra gardaí to the Traffic Corps this year was yesterday criticised as hopelessly inadequate by Fine Gael.

The party’s transport spokeswoman, Olivia Mitchell, said figures that showed the strength of the Traffic Corps at 563 in 2005 were misleading, as all but 33 were transferred from the former traffic division.

The small increase, she said, was inadequate when evidence showed an increase in the number of fatalities on Irish roads.
