Rebel killing in Colombia

REBELS have killed the kidnapped brother of Colombia’s education minister even though his family paid a ransom twice, authorities said in Bogota.

Bernardo Velez, who was killed with a single shot to the head, is the third member of Education Minister Cecilia Maria Velez’s family to be abducted and murdered, after her mother and another brother. Bernardo Velez was abducted in March 2001 by fighters of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC.
