Zeta Jones in battle over luxury house plan

HOLLYWOOD star Catherine Zeta Jones is facing a battle with neighbours over plans to build a luxury house in her home town.

The actress is building the stg£1 million property in Swansea so her two-year-old son, Dylan, and new baby expected in March do not lose their Welsh roots.

However, neighbours fear Zeta Jones and husband Michael Douglas's decision to alter their plans from a two to a three-storey building with huge windows will invade their privacy. One neighbour, who did not want to be named, has complained to the local council about the new home. He said the changed plans meant a three-

storey house, more than one metre taller than originally planned with 15 windows to the rear on three floors including "one massive window extending from ground floor to ceiling level".

He said his sitting room, bedroom and bathroom would be "in direct line of sight of the proposed house, losing all privacy".

However, the council has given the building the go-ahead. A spokesman for Swansea Council said: "A revised application has been received and approved to utilise roof space as accommodation. We have had one letter of objection."

Zeta Jones is currently winning rave reviews for her performance in the film, Chicago. She and her husband already own homes in Los Angeles, Bermuda, Majorca, New York and Aspen.

The surroundings of the new four-bedroom family house in the Mumbles area where Zeta Jones's family is based are somewhat less glamorous. Their new neighbours will be residents of a caravan park and a Barratt Homes estate.
