DANIEL CRAIG certainly knows how to leave women shaken and stirred.

The 37-year-old actor, unveiled yesterday as the new James Bond, made headlines just days ago for a reported fling with Sienna Miller as she was getting over her betrayal by fiance Jude Law - one of his close friends.

Last year he enjoyed a romance with supermodel Kate Moss.

And former co-star Angelina Jolie has said he is “one of the best kissers” she has ever encountered.

Not bad for a man once nicknamed Mr Potato Head.

Landing the role of 007 will catapult Craig into the international A-list.

So far he is best known for his roles in gangster film Layer Cake and starring opposite Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

Blond-haired, blue-eyed Craig was born in Chester and grew up in Liverpool, the son of a merchant seaman and a schoolteacher.

They divorced when he was six and his mother remarried.

As a child he visited Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre and became hooked on acting after watching the likes of Julie Walters and Bernard Hill perform.

Aged 16, he moved to London where he performed with the National Youth Theatre before winning a place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where his contemporaries included Joseph Fiennes and Ewan McGregor, who was also tipped for the Bond role.

Among his first roles was a small part opposite Catherine Zeta Jones in the 1992 made-for-video Adventures of Young Indiana Jones.

In the same year he made his big screen debut in boxing movie The Power of One.

His breakthrough role came in 1996, playing Geordie Peacock in the acclaimed TV series Our Friends In The North with Christopher Eccleston and Gina McKee.
