A BRITISH defence minister at the time of the Iraq war said yesterday it was "increasingly likely" the intelligence on which the British government relied ahead of the conflict was 'deficient'.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair, however, has insisted that intelligence reports suggesting Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction were correct.

Mr Blair made his comments shortly before US official David Kay quit his job as head of the Iraq Survey Group (ISG), the body tasked with locating Saddam's alleged weapons of mass destruction.
