Officials jailed in Burma

A COURT in military-ruled Burma has jailed four opposition party officials for seven years in jail after a closed trial at the notorious Insein Prison, a party spokesman said yesterday.

The two men and two women, all officials of Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party, were arrested in June for alleged links to an illegal organisation, said a party spokesman.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Suu Kyi is currently under house arrest.
