SCIENTISTS have worked out the genetic blueprint of the microbe thought to cause acne, the scourge of teenagers around the world.

The bug’s DNA was found to encode 2,333 genes, including many responsible for its ability to attack and destroy components of human skin, it was revealed yesterday.

Researchers hope the genome sequence will help them develop new treatments against acne, which affects 80% of all adolescents. It can cause nothing more serious than a few spots, but for those who are severely affected it can be psychologically devastating.
