EU on rights collision course with airlines

THE European Commission is set for another clash with airlines over its plans to adopt new rights for disabled and elderly travellers.

EU on rights collision course with airlines

The EU announced proposals yesterday to guarantee people with reduced mobility the same access to air transport as any other passenger. The draft regulation will outlaw disabled passengers being charged for wheelchair services at airports and on board aircraft.

It will also prohibit operators from denying reservation or boarding to persons because of disability or age. Airports will have responsibility for providing such assistance, although they may obtain contributions towards the cost from airlines.
