Car owners rate Citroen Saxo least popular model
The Citroen Saxo was the least popular among 138 models considered, with just 34% of owners recommending it to a friend, while top of the popularity league were the BMW X5 and Toyota Yaris Verso models, with 92% of owners recommending them.
The results of the survey, covering nearly 33,000 cars up to eight years' old, were published in the British Consumer Association's Which? Car magazine.
Three other Japanese cars Mazda MX-5, Lexus IS200 and Toyota Yaris joined the Toyota Yaris Verso in the top 10 most-recommended cars table. Two British-built cars also joined the elite group the Jaguar S-type and Mini (both with 88%).
At the bottom of the table, only slightly less unpopular than the Saxo, was the Citroen Xsara with only 37% of owners recommending it.
The magazine also announced its best buys, based on reliability, safety, security, running costs and owner satisfaction. The best superminis were judged to be the Toyotas Yaris and Yaris Verso and the Honda Jazz.
The best medium-class buys were the Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Nissan Almera and Toyota Corolla. Best large cars were the Nissan Primera, Lexus IS200/IS300 and BMW 3 Series, while the Jaguar S-type was best luxury car.
Which? Car editor Jon Dunning said: "When buying a car, it's great if you can call on the opinions of people who actually own the models you're considering.
"But our best buys are not just popular with their owners our testing and research enables us to recommend cars that are also safe, secure and economical to run."
