Irish Ferries move averts strike action

A scheduled High Court hearing today on a temporary injunction preventing Irish Ferries from letting any staff go is now likely to be abandoned.

Last night's surprise development, which came after less than an hour of Labour Court talks, was immediately welcomed by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern who said he would monitor developments over the coming weeks as both sides sit down to negotiate.
