RWANDAN militiamen massacred at least 10 farmers in a remote village in Congo, the latest violence reported in the country’s troubled east.

Interahamwe militiamen who played a role in Rwanda's 1994 genocide and fled to Congo afterward attacked Walungu village, 15 miles southwest of the eastern city of Bukavu, said Gilbert Muke, a local leader of rival Mayi Mayi fighters.

"The Interahamwe attacked the farmers and killed those among them who refused to give up their cows," Muke said, adding that he saw 10 of the dead. State television reported 15 people dead.
