A CREW of 15 specialists have started cutting the medals that will be awarded to winners at next month’s Olympics Games, organisers said yesterday.

A total of 13 kilos of gold, a ton of silver and a ton of bronze will be used in their production in a factory at Aspropyrgos - a western suburb of Athens.

The plant will churn out around 3,000 medals - 986 gold, 986 silver and 1,150 bronze. Winners’ medals receive a final gloss of gold in Switzerland.
