COMMUTERS were packed sardine-like aboard the few trains left running or got stuck on jammed roads as a strike over jobs cuts disrupted French rail services yesterday.

Just one-in-three high-speed TGV trains, the pride of France’s rail network, and one-in-four slower Corail trains were running, rail operator SNCF said.

Paris’s suburban network was badly hit, with between 60% and 84% of trains cancelled.
