Ivory Coast papers defiant

SEVEN Ivory Coast opposition newspapers that have been shut down in the latest violence published a joint edition to protest what they called the “dawn of fascism” in Ivory Coast.

“We refuse to die,” the papers declared on the front of the 12-page edition, distributed free in the commercial capital, Abidjan.

None of the papers have been allowed to publish since President Laurent Gbagbo resumed hostilities on November 4 in a two-year-old civil war, launching bombing runs against rebels who control the northern half of the country.
