Rendition probes can shed light but do nothing

THE European Parliament is the latest to announce they will investigate whether European countries are allowing themselves to be used by the CIA in their so-called rendition system.

So far there is little or no hard evidence to back up claims the American secret service is operating prisons in European countries, or using them through which to fly the prisoners.

The reaction of various EU members to accusations that they are cooperating or turning a blind eye to this activity has been to either deny it or plead ignorance.
