AIB record profits

AIB made record profits of €3.8 million every day last year despite a series of scandals, including illegal foreign exchange charges and former executives being linked to offshore tax-dodging schemes.

The bank made profits of €1.4 billion in 2004 a 40% increase on the previous year and more than any Irish company has ever made in a year.

The results mean the €50m bill to compensate customers affected by the foreign exchange scandal will barely register on the bank's radar.
