No jail terms say Columbian paramilitaries

THE leader of Colombia’s right-wing paramilitaries, in a controversial appearance at Congress, said his groups would not accept jail terms despite two decades of brutal violence against Marxist rebels and innocent civilians.

“The reward for our sacrifices for the country ... cannot be prison,” said Savlatore Mancuso, head of the paramilitary United Self-Defence Forces, or AUC.
