THE leader of Colombia’s right-wing paramilitaries, in a controversial appearance at Congress, said his groups would not accept jail terms despite two decades of brutal violence against Marxist rebels and innocent civilians.

Rescuers have evacuated more than a dozen wounded people from an isolated corner of Colombia after battles between rebels and rival paramilitaries killed 68 civilians, among them 38 children, authorities said.
