Dempsey considering research facility

COMMUNICATIONS Minister Noel Dempsey is considering establishing a new research facility of the site of the defunct Media Lab Europe.

MediaLab Europe (MLE), which was based in south inner city Dublin, was placed into voluntary liquidation last month after swallowing €35.5 million of taxpayers’ money and causing the loss of 50 jobs.

The joint venture with American university, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, also raised €12m in funding from private investors. A rescue plan by the board, which sought another €9 million to save the project, was rejected by the Government.
