Do you know who this woman is?
The woman, who is receiving treatment in hospital, was discovered six weeks ago in Urlingford, Co Kilkenny.
Suffering from memory loss, she was unable to tell gardaí how she arrived in the town.
Urlingford, straddling the Kilkenny-Tipperary border, is on the busy N8 Cork-Dublin route, and is traditionally a temporary stop point for inter-city bus services.
The woman, aged in her early 30s, was found in the town on Monday, July 7.
According to gardaí, she called herself Elizabeth Sands. She speaks with a northern accent and claimed her home was in Co Antrim.
However, gardaí said the Police Service of Northern Ireland was unable to establish the woman’s identity.
The PSNI told gardaí the woman does not bear any resemblance to anyone on their missing lists.
“We maintained close contact with the PSNI over the past five weeks to help trace the woman’s background and family,” a garda spokesman said.
“Our inquiries, which have been exhaustive, also extended to all other relevant agencies, but the investigation to date drew a blank.”
The mystery woman is 5 feet 6 inches in height, with auburn hair and grey-green eyes. She was wearing a fawn-white coloured corduroy bomber jacket with fur trim, fawn-white jeans and a white ivory sweater.
She has a tattoo on her left forearm showing DEIRDRE FRAN with a heart, while there is also a tattoo on her right forearm with the word DEIRDRE.
“Our last hope at this stage is a public appeal for assistance,” gardaí said.
A photograph of the woman was released yesterday to the media.
