Fashion flop Britney ‘worst dressed’ star
“When it comes to couture chaos, this tacky terror should take a bow. She looks like an over-the-hill Lolita,” Mr Blackwell said in a statement. Number two was teen fashionista Mary-Kate Olsen, whose style was: “Bag Lady rags that look depressingly decayed!”
Blonde bombshell singer Jessica Simpson, in the process of divorcing singer Nick Lachey, didn’t escape lightly either, damned by Mr Blackwell who suggested she “sack the stylist and divorce the designer”. Though her Daisy Duke shorts landed her on the pages of numerous magazines, Mr Blackwell said she “resembles a cut-rate Rapunzel slingin’ hash in a Vegas diner”.
The other offenders on Blackwell’s list of fashion flops were Eva Longoria, Mariah Carey, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Shakira, Anna Nicole Smith and Renee Zellweger.
Longoria took flack for her “gorgeous face, garish taste” while Carey, in the midst of a triumphant musical comeback was lashed for her scanty attire and for committing “fashion Hari-Carey”.
Anna Nicole Smith was described as “Queen Kong”. Teen actress and singer Lindsay Lohan was called a “fashion fright”.
Favourite Blackwell target Renee Zellweger was chided again. “She looks like a painted pumpkin - on a pogo stick,” said Mr Blackwell.
Mr Blackwell said Paris Hilton, who topped his list two years ago, “still looks like yesterday’s cheesecake ... with a side of kitsch”. “From overexposed, underdressed and over-the-top Pop Tarts to the beyond bad bling-bling brigade, the fashion landscape was littered with a litany of taste-free terrors,” he said.
But there were some saving graces in Mr Blackwell’s analysis of Hollywood’s fashion sense last year. Earnings spots on his “Fabulous Fashion Independents of 2005” list were Reese Witherspoon, Kirsten Dunst, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Moss, and Natalie Portman.
“These women glow and blossom with effortless beauty and memorable style,” he said.
