US and Singapore are negotiating a strategic security pact while Washington advances plans to redeploy tens of thousands of troops based in Europe and Asia.

“We will deepen our engagement with the US on security,” Tony Tan, Co-ordinating Minister for Security and Defence, said yesterday, adding that the two countries were “negotiating a strategic framework” for defence.
