Rare fertility operation completed

IN a rare operation in St Louis on Wednesday, ovarian tissue from Melanie Morgan was transplanted into her 24-year-old identical twin Stephanie Yarber in an effort to make her fertile.

Dr Sherman Silber, who led the transplant team, said he expects Yarber to begin menstruating in three months and hopefully become pregnant “the old-fashioned way”.

Yarber, who was left infertile after suffering a rare menopausal condition at 13, had unsuccessfully tried in vitro fertilisation twice.
